We are seeking an individual to help drive the continued growth of EMM’s business through the delivery of world-class services, recruitment and development of our next generation of leaders, and further advancement of our reputation for supporting the development of complex projects.

The Water Resources: Technical Lead role occupies a front-and-centre position in the expansion of EMM’s consulting services in Canada. The position relies on technical and business acumen to flourish. In this role, you will grow the water resources service line in Canada, while also collaborating and innovating with our wider team in Australia. The service line involves project delivery in the mining and potentially energy sectors; with key responsibilities including servicing existing clients, identification and pursuit of potential clients and helping ensure we have adequate resources to deliver. This role is key to advancing EMM’s service offerings both domestically and internationally.

You bring:

• BSc/MSc/PhD in environmental science, engineering, or earth science with a focus in water.
• Registered Professional (P.Eng or P.Geo)
• Experienced leader with interest and passion to grow a robust network of client relationships in the mining sector
• 15+ years of demonstrated experience with project delivery including impact assessment and/or permitting, working substantially with the mining sector in Canada and the America’s (an asset)
• In-depth understanding of the mining industry, including juniors, mid-tier and major miners and existing industry relationships that can be leveraged into new business
• Demonstrated experience working with federal and provincial legislation and policies that apply to mine project development and permitting in western Canada (experience in other jurisdictions is an asset)
• Experience in water resource management (specific expertise in water modelling is an asset)
• Demonstrable track record in successfully winning and delivering large and strategic projects to successful regulatory outcomes
• Established reputation in Canada, including industry and government relationships
• Demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with Indigenous organizations and government entities
• Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols
• Professional accreditation (P. Geo. or P. Eng.), eligible to work in Canada
• Robust history of technical delivery including the preparation of impact assessments and development permits for projects regulated in Canada
• Technical background in hydrogeology, hydrology, geochemistry, water resources engineering or civil engineering to provide integrated oversight and technical overlap to our multi-disciplinary team
• Experience in business strategy as applicable to consultancies or mining in Canada



What you’ll be doing:

• Collaborate with colleagues in Canada and Australia to develop commercial strategies with the aim of driving revenue growth and alignment with our strategy
• Be a brand ambassador, raising the profile of EMM’s capabilities and creating dialogue to cross sell our services
• Deliver strategic consulting advice and leverage existing client relationships to promote return business and expansion of revenue streams
• Provide excellent technical advice and quality service to maintain strongly productive and mutually beneficial relationships with clients
• Be proactive and present in industry with the intent to advance business development efforts toward high-potential, top-tier opportunities
• Conduct and manage business development opportunities and use technical expertise to develop proposals, including written content, pricing and presentations
• Delivery of projects with sensitivity to client’s requirements for success, whether that is budgetary, timeliness or exceptional technical quality
• Lead consulting engagements in the areas of water resource impact assessment, technical discipline-specific consulting (i.e., hydrology, hydrogeology or geochemistry) and/or permitting and compliance
• Help build and grow a high-performance team, serving as a leader and mentor
• Identify emerging talent and work with them to reach their full potential; ensure rising stars are nurtured, developed and given new areas of responsibility
• Drive, inspire and/or contribute to innovation within the global business to stay ahead of client needs and to differentiate EMM in the market
• Meet health & safety performance standards, financial targets, overall project budgets and schedules, client satisfaction/expectations, and internal risk management and contractual requirements
